Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Moutinho has revealed that he had the chance to join Everton but decided to stay in Portugal. David Moyes had been keen to land the Portugal international in the summer, but was unwilling to pay Sporting's asking price of £20million for the player. However, Moutinho insists he turned down the opportunity to move to England, telling the Daily Telegraph: "It's true I was interested in going to Everton, but I didn't accept the offer. "But who knows what might happen next season in terms of playing in England? "I will give everything to Sporting, staying was good for me and the club. "We have an excellent team, we are strong mature and want to continue to progress."
