McFadden blow for Toffees
24 Jan 2007 - 14:37:53
Everton have suffered a second injury blow in the space of a few days with the news that James McFadden will be out of action for at least six weeks after breaking a metatarsal during a freak training ground incident.
The Scotland international has joined fellow striker Andrew Johnson on the sidelines after suffering the injury in a game of head tennis at the club's Bellefield training ground.
Earlier in the week it was confirmed that Johnson faces a lengthy spell out after injuring his ankle in Sunday's victory over Wigan Athletic.
Everton's physio Mick Rathbone confirmed that the England striker would be missing for "weeks rather than months" but the addition on McFadden to the injury list could force Toffees boss David Moyes into the transfer market.
"James McFadden has broken his fifth metatarsal and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines," confirmed a club statement.
"It is too early for a full diagnosis or an estimation of how long the Scotland international will be out."
Meanwhile, the Merseysiders have recently been linked with a £500,000 raid on Leeds United for Northern Ireland international David Healy.
