Martin Keown: Everton star Tim Cahill is small, explosive and full of aggression

If I were playing against Tim Cahill this weekend I would want to be particularly physical with him.[LNB]You know as a defender you have to get off the ground before him. If you're late, you don't have achance.[LNB]He's not the tallest of strikers at only 5ft 10in but he's immensely strong in the air. One of the thingshe does very well to make up for his lack of height is that he leaps very early. He's an explosive jumper who can get from the ground up to the ball very quickly.[LNB] Happy days: Tim Cahill celebrates after scoring Everton's opening goal at Manchester City on Monday night[LNB]His legs are so strong he doesn't necessarily need a run-up and he hangs in the air very well, like allthe best headers of the ball. He also uses his body to great effect, blocking off defenders fromchallenging for the ball like a smaller Kevin Davies but just as physical.[LNB]He's quite cheeky with his physicality. There are occasions, even this season, when it's questionable if he was honestly going for the ball. He's not always fouling people but he does push the boundariesof the law and usually manages to stay inside.[LNB]It seems ridiculous saying it when he's 31 and been in the Premier League for six years but teams almost need to pay him a bit more respect now and try to cancel him out that's how dangerous he is.[LNB]It's not that he's gone unnoticed but what David Moyes does very well is play a bustling big man alongside him like Victor Anichebe or Marouane Fellaini who provide the perfect foil for Cahill.[LNB]He loves to sniff around those players and cash in while the eyes of the opposition are distracted by the physical presence of his team-mates.[LNB] So dangerous: Cahill puts Everton on their way to victory[LNB]Moyes' role has been instrumental inthe making of Cahill. He bought him as a midfielder at Millwall who could break away and attack and started to use him as an auxiliary striker at Goodison Park.[LNB]Now he's a thorn in the opposition's side who will run around all day attempting to get on to the end of things.[LNB]He just pops up all over the pitch.[LNB]At the set-piece you cannot let him get his head on the end of things because he's too dangerous. But even from general play you cannot fall asleep.[LNB]Everton's first goal on Monday night came because Vincent Kompany flew out of position. Kolo Toure should have slotted across much quicker and before he got in position up popped Cahill to slot the ball.[LNB]Whenever defenders are daydreaming for a second he is going to exploit that. As a defender you would run out against Everton with one thought: make sure Tim Cahill doesn't grab the headlines.[LNB] Cahill is Everton's pocket assassin!
