Everton manager David Moyes is unsure whether Manuel Fernandes has done enough during his loan spell at Goodison to warrant being handed a permanent contract in the summer.

The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder scored a spectacular goal to give Everton a 2-0 lead against Manchester United, before Sir Alex Ferguson's title-chasing side hit back to win 4-2, but Moyes still thinks the player has a lot to learn.

"There wasn't enough involvement in the game from Manuel Fernandes," Moyes said of the player who is on loan from Benfica until the end of the season.

"We liked the goal but I think we're looking for more from an all-round general performance."

Of the defeat, Moyes added: "Manchester United have got players who can make things happen but I think we made things happen for Manchester United.

"We were instigators of Manchester United's comeback.

"Defensively we've been very good. We were 2-0 up and haven't conceded many goals all season and been very sound. That's why we're disappointed because it's strange for us to make mistakes like we did.

"I think the first goal gave us a massive downer and United a massive slice of luck which has changed the game.

"We were 2-0 up and if you look at the second goal, what is it down to? Not digging in? I don't know if it is. Then we had a really poor third goal when we could have kicked the ball up the park."
