Livid Moyes drops Yakubu
09 Feb 2008 - 12:59:27
Furious Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that Ayegbeni Yakubu will play no part in the game against Reading.
Moyes was livid when the Nigeria international returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty late. Yakubu is expected to be handed a fine of around £80,000, equivalent to two weeks' wages, and has certainly incurred Moyes' wrath.
The Toffees boss said: "I've spoken to Yakubu and he won't be involved in the squad. It's an internal matter.
"Joseph Yobo came back on Wednesday and we expected Yak to be the same. I think that the players are extremely keen on getting Yakubu back, but they know discipline has to be put in place.
"I trust and believe in the players I've got here. It's the correct decision in my opinion.
"I think it's a matter of showing respect to the players (who have been here). This is a big football club and that's the way it's going to be.
"We hoped to have a full contingent of players back from the African Nations, but obviously for different reasons we don't have that.
"We've picked up one or two other injuries but that's to be expected. Everybody gets injuries."
