John Aldridge scores Liverpool's opening goal after just 4 minutes of the 1989 FA Cup final Everton’s Stuart McCall forced the match into extra-time when his second strike cancelled out goals from John Aldridge and Ian Rush. But Rush, the most prolific scorer in Merseyside derbies, won the FA Cup for Liverpool when he headed John Barnes’s cross past Neville Southall, who holds the record for the most Merseyside derby appearances. 3. 1988, First Division, 1-0 to Everton The second league derby of the season at Goodison came six months after Everton chairman Sir Philip Carter had publicly condemned the Toffees' supporters who had chanted racist abuse at Liverpool's John Barnes. Liverpool suffered just two league defeats in 1987-88 but this was one of them - Everton won 1-0 through a Wayne Clarke goal and ended the Reds' 29-game unbeaten run. Kenny Dalglish's team had the last laugh, though, as they went on to take the title. 4. 1967, FA Cup, 1-0 to Everton More than 100,000 people saw Alan Ball score the winner for Everton in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. More than 60,000 fans were at Goodison Park and a further 40,000 supporters watched the game at Anfield on a giant screen. It was Ball's third derby goal that season following his double in Everton's 3-1 league victory at Goodison in 1966. The Toffees lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest in the next round. 5. 1986, FA Cup, 3-1 to Liverpool Gary Lineker put Everton ahead in the first FA Cup final to double as a Merseyside derby, but Liverpool came back with two second-half goals from Ian Rush and one from Craig Johnston. Ian Rush rounds the Everton goalkeeper Bobby Mimms for the first of his two goals during the 1986 FA Cup final The Reds' victory made gave them the Double that year after they took the league title from holders Everton, who finished as runners up. 6. 1977, FA Cup, 2-2 (3-0 to Liverpool in the replay) The Reds beat Everton at Old Trafford in the FA Cup semi-final of 1971 and repeated the feat six years later in a replay at Maine Road. Everton were still livid about a disallowed Bryan Hamilton goal in the last minutes of the first tie and went down 3-0 at the second time of asking.   7. 1999, Premier League, 1-0 to Everton The Toffees' 1-0 win at Anfield was the last time Everton have won at the Reds' home ground. Kevin Campbell scored the eventual winner after just four minutes, Sander Westerveld and Francis Jeffers had a spat and were sent off and Steven Gerrard also received a red card in the dying minutes of the game. Former Everton striker Francis Jeffers is a cheer-leader, along with Michael Ball after Everton's goal in their 1-0 win at Anfield in 1999 8. 2006, Premier League, 3-1 to Liverpool Steve Gerrard lasted just 20 minutes before receiving a second yellow card but Liverpool battled on - a Phil Neville own goal, Luis Garcia effort and a Harry Kewell strike sealed the points for Liverpool at Anfield. Liverpool's Steven Gerrard is sent off for the second time in a Merseyside derby. Tim Cahill got a consolation goal for Everton and Andy van der Meyde was sent off. Neville and Gerrard are the only players to have been sent off twice in Merseyside derbies. 9. 1982, First Division, 5-0 to Liverpool Ian Rush, the all-time top-scorer in Merseyside derbies, bagged four goals as the Reds romped to a 5-0 win at Goodison Park. 10. 1984, League Cup, 1-0 to Liverpool It took two attempts to find the winner of the first all-Merseyside League Cup final as a 0-0 draw was played out at Wembley.
