Liverpool in 1910: Sporting stars who made their name on Merseyside

IN the third of our special five-part series looking at Liverpool life a century ago, Paddy Shennan reflects on the world of sport circa 1910[LNB]THERE may be a distinct lack of togetherness these days, but Everton and Liverpool were great examples of caring and sharing football clubs a century ago.[LNB]They may not have had a shared stadium, but, between 1904 and 1935, the clubs produced shared Everton and Liverpool Football Programmes, rather than have their own dedicated editions.[LNB]But how were our teams doing on the pitch exactly 100 years ago? Well, the 1909/1910 season finished with Aston Villa as champions - although Liverpool were runners-up. Everton finished 10th.[LNB]And here's the full - very interesting - final table:[LNB]1. Aston Villa[LNB]2. Liverpool[LNB]3. Blackburn Rovers[LNB]4. Newcastle United[LNB]5. Manchester United[LNB]6. Sheffield United[LNB]7. Bradford City[LNB]8. Sunderland[LNB]9. Notts County[LNB]10. Everton[LNB]11. Sheffield Wednesday[LNB]12. Preston North End[LNB]13. Bury[LNB]14. Nottingham Forest[LNB]15. Tottenham Hotspur[LNB]16. Bristol City[LNB]17. Middlesbrough[LNB]18. Arsenal[LNB]19. Chelsea[LNB]20. Bolton Wanderers[LNB]Not a great season for Chelsea or Arsenal, was it? What a shame.
