Lescott coy on City talk

Everton's England international defender Joleon Lescott has played down speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City. The former Wolves stopper has been linked with a £15million move to the City of Manchester Stadium this month, although Lescott is treating the talk as speculation. The 26-year-old is contracted to Everton until the summer of 2012 and unless told otherwise insists he is a Toffees player with a long term future at Goodison Park. Lescott has been away on international duty this week and the defender, who made 36 Premier League appearances last season, is unhappy at having to answer questions on his future. "We do not see much of the media side when we are away with England, but you cannot stop the papers speculating," said Lescott. "It is not a question I want to be answering, and no-one has said anything to me other than I am an Everton player. "I am going on holiday now with my family to wind down for the next couple of weeks and then I will come back fully focused on getting fit for pre-season." Meanwhile, Lescott has admitted his surprise at starting alongside John Terry in Wednesday's World Cup qualifying win over Andorra. West Ham's Matthew Upson was expected to be given the nod by Fabio Capello, but to Lescott's surprise he was handed a rare start in the 6-0 demolition job of the minnows. "Going into the game, I did not expect to play because Matt has been doing well recently," he continued. "It was a surprise to me, and I only knew when we had a meeting at 5:45pm and my name was down in the team. "I have just got to stay focused and give it my all when I come to join up with England by training hard."
