Lescott bemoans slow start
Everton defender Joleon Lescott is disappointed his form in the early stages of the season was below his lofty high standards.[LNB] The Toffees made an uncharacteristic slow start to the campaign after struggling at home and conceding far too many goals for David Moyes' liking.[LNB]Lescott believes he was making too many mistakes and resorted to going back to basics in a bid to get his performances back up to speed.[LNB]The former Wolves ace believes Everton's season turned full circle following their win at Spurs, where they ground out a crucial 1-0 success.[LNB]Very disappointed"I was very disappointed with my form at the start of the season," he told the Liverpool Echo. "You always believe you can play well, but it wasn't to be.[LNB]"I had to get back to basics, start working harder in training and doing little extra things. It's paying off and I'm pleased with the way I am playing. But I want to improve.[LNB]"It's not nice when your form goes like that, when you are losing and you're making mistakes.[LNB]"It was hard to take and I needed to take a long, hard look at myself and the mistakes I was making. I sat down with the coaches and we talked about it.[LNB]Back to basics"They told me to just start concentrating more and get back to basics and it's paid off. It was going wrong in a few games, not just one.[LNB]"But the turning point for me was when we went to Tottenham and got a great result. I took a lot more confidence from that into the next game and it's built up from there."[LNB]Meanwhile, Everton will play a pre-season friendly against Perth Glory if the Premier League side can organise a second match in Australia, the A-League club have announced.[LNB]
