LEEDS UNITED have cancelled Jermaine Beckford's contract - paving the way for him to join Everton.[LNB]The in-demand striker was set to become a free agent on July 1 when his deal at Elland Road expired.[LNB]However, after failing to persuade Beckford to remain in Yorkshire, Leeds have finally conceded defeat and severed ties with the player.[LNB]By officially terminating his contract, Beckford is now free to complete his switch to Goodison Park.[LNB]That is expected to happen early next week once the player has passed a medical at Finch Farm.[LNB]First, the 26-year-old will meet with David Moyes this weekend while Bill Kenwright is set to meet the players agent to put the finishing touches to the transfer.[LNB]Everton have offered Beckford a four-year deal after being given permission by Leeds to speak to the player.[LNB]Despite interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle who had a £1.5m offer for Beckford rejected in January, the former Chelsea trainee is known to prefer a move to Everton.[LNB]Aston Villa and West Ham were also tracking his situation but Beckford wanted to remain in the north for personal reasons.[LNB]Leeds had put a new deal on the table for Beckford last May but the player turned it down and was subsequently placed on the transfer list for two months.[LNB]The club then returned with improved terms of around £10,000 a week in January after Beckford had submitted a transfer request.
