Kazan still keen on Pienaar

Russian champions Rubin Kazan have reiterated their desire to sign Steven Pienaar from Everton. Kazan reportedly tabled a £4.5million bid for Pienaar in January, with that offer knocked back by the Toffees. The club's coach Kurban Berdiyev has made it clear that the South African midfielder continues to top his wish list. "On the interest of our club in Pienaar, I said this back in November," Berdiyev told Sport. "He is a good footballer, but to negotiate, agree and to make an offer to get the player, are very different things." Top targetThe Russians are now believed to be weighing up an improved approach as they seek to land their top target. Everton boss David Moyes is reluctant to part with a man who only signed a new three-year contract in April 2008, especially as he is currently without the services of influential Spanish playmaker Mikel Arteta. With the transfer window closed for business in Western Europe, the Toffees would also be unable to bring in a permanent replacement. While a second approach from Kazan is still expected, for now Pienaar's agent insists his client is going nowhere. "I haven't even discussed it with Steven," Rob Moore told the South Africa Times.
