Johnson keen to spark a goal rush

Fulham striker Andrew Johnson has set his sights on increasing his goals tally as the Cottagers aim for a European push this season.Johnson has hit 10 goals in 30 games since he joined Fulham from Everton last summer.Injury restricted his initial impact at Craven Cottage and he had to wait until mid-September before making his debut against Bolton.A red card against West Ham left him suspended but the striker bounced back with his first and second goals for Fulham as they beat Wigan. His first goal was also the 100th of his club career."Initially, it was a little frustrating," admitted Johnson. "I just wanted to be out there playing alongside my new team-mates and be a part of the squad. It was difficult because I wanted to show the fans what I was all about."So the Wigan game was a great night for me and one that I won't forget in a hurry. To score my 100th league goal as well as my first for the club was an amazing feeling and one that is hard to explain."We went on a great run after that, despite slipping up at Everton, and we really showed what a strong team we are at the Cottage. It's a pity we haven't replicated that form away from home because I think we could well have been in and around the top."I do think there is more to my game than just goals. You need your strikers to bring more to the team. Of course, goals are important, but equally so is working hard and making a nuisance of yourself."Over my career I think I've averaged something like a goal in every two and a half games. This season the goals probably haven't come as freely as I would have hoped, but I'm happy with my total so far and with nine games to go I'd like to add another four or five."With the amount of money the club spent on me, there was always going to be pressure to do well and score goals but, for me, the main thing was the team's performance. That's the important thing, not how many times I hit the back of the net."He added: "I think the style of football that Fulham plays really suits my game. I'm so pleased with how the gaffer wants us to play - it's the way the game should be played. When I first joined I just couldn't believe how well we passed the ball about."It is something that I hear all the time now, particularly from players from the opposing teams. It's great to hear because it's a massive compliment."Johnson admits that towards the end of his spell at Everton he was being played out of position and as a result his form suffered."I think I lost my confidence towards the end of my time at Everton," he continued. "I was being played out of position quite a lot and that was very difficult. I was in and out of the team as well and, for whatever reason, it just wasn't working out."But I've got that confidence back again and I'm going out onto that pitch without any fear. I'm scoring goals, and I have that game sharpness back too. I'm loving playing for Fulham, everything is going very well."[LNB]
