Jags happy to stay at Everton
13 Aug 2010 - 07:42:50
Everton defender Phil Jagielka has played down media reports that are linking him with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal ahead of the new campaign.
The 27-year-old is thought to be high on Arsene Wenger's wish-list, despite bringing in centre-half Laurent Koscielny from French outfit Lorient, but Jagielka has once again reiterated his desire to stay with the Toffees.
"There's nothing I can do about the speculation, but the gaffer has pulled me aside and told me I'm not going anywhere," Jagielka said.
"I'm happy with that. I'm an Everton player, I love playing for the club, and I'm just going to get on with my job there."
The former Sheffield United man picked up his third England cap during the narrow 2-1 victory over Hungary at Wembley and, playing alongside Kieran Gibbs, Ashley Young and Jack Wilshere, Jagielka believes the national team is entering a new era.
"If you looked at the team that finished the match then there won't have been many caps between us which is nice to see," he added.
"We have a lot of good English talent coming up and I'm sure that the manager will put young and old together and hopefully we can kick on for the European Championships."
