Everton defender Phil Jagielka has undergone surgery to repair the ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The 26-year-old England international sustained the problem during the 2-1 defeat by Manchester City last weekend and faces around six months out of action as a result.
Toffees head physio, Mick Rathbone, told the club's official website: "The operation went really, really well.
"The surgeon is absolutely delighted with it and the player's rehab can start more or less straight away.
"We never put a timescale on this type of thing, but we're looking forward to having him back as soon as possible next season."
The cruel timing of Jagielka's injury means that he will miss the FA Cup final against Chelsea, having scored the winning penalty in Everton's semi-final shootout success over Manchester United.
