Jagielka hopes for quiet time

Everton central defender Phil Jagielka remains hopeful that key members of the Goodison Park squad will not be lost this summer.

The likes of Joleon Lescott and Steven Pienarr have been linked with moves away from Merseyside, with the former reported to be a major target for cash-rich Manchester City.

Jagielka, who is currently sidelined by a long-term knee injury, told the club's official website: "has been fantastic and it was nice to see him play for England at the end of the season.

"That tells you enough - he's a massive part of our team and we don't want him to go. I'm sure the club don't want him to go.

"Plus we have only got two centre-halves with me not being available at present.

"The way football is at the moment, if someone is going to splash ridiculous money, then you have to see where it goes.

"I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of our players were subject to bids, but hopefully we are financially stable enough to reject them and build on the squad we have got."
