Jagielka Hits Back At Gerrard Jibes
Phil Jagielka has hit back at claims made by Liverpool skipper, Steven Gerrard, and accused his international team-mate of being disrespectful.
In the aftermath to the controversial 219th Merseyside derby, Gerrard ranted that Everton are ‘very similar to Stoke’ and added that ‘there was only one team trying to play football.
The match stats that have since been revealed prove the Huyton born star’s accusations to be false as David Moyes outfit had more possession, played more passes and played a substantially fewer number of long balls.
The scathing attack on the Goodison Park outfit has not been at all welcomed by Jagielka and the England defender didn’t hold back when asked about Gerrard’s comments.
He said: “It’s a little bit disrespectful to players like Bainesy, Ossie and Kevin who are players who do create a lot of chances for us.”
In a clear reference to the style of play that Brendan Rodgers is trying to instil into his new Liverpool side, Jagielka added: “We don’t believe in passing it around for half an hour for the sake of it. We play quite direct.
“Who wouldn’t when you have someone in form like Felli who can bring the ball down for fun and we start creating things from there. Why wouldn’t you do that?”
