Interest growing in Taira

A host of Premier League clubs are preparing bids for Sporting Lisbon starlet Afonso Taira, skysports.com understands. Almost every top-flight club from England is currently represented in Germany where the Uefa Under 17 Championship is taking place. Each club has their own list of potential targets, and skysports.com understands six Premier League clubs have Taira at the top of their wanted lists. The 16-year-old forward is another product of Sporting's highly-acclaimed academy, but he is not yet on a professional deal, which means in the summer an English side could take him with only compensation then due to the Portuguese giants. Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham are amongst the clubs leading the chase for Taira, who played in the 1-0 defeat to England on Wednesday. Taira's UK representative Peter Morrison confirmed the interest in his client, although he would not name specific clubs. "We obviously cannot discuss any names, but it is fair to say there are a number of clubs very interested in Afonso Taira," he told skysports.com.
