Injury ends Cahill campaign
04 Mar 2007 - 09:19:27
Everton midfielder Tim Cahill is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a foot injury during the 1-1 draw at Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old Australia international had to be replaced shortly before half-time at Bramall Lane, having only made his Toffees return in mid-January after a knee injury kept him sidelined for two months.
Toffees boss David Moyes told the club's official website: "Tim has broken the first metatarsal in his left foot.
"He will probably be out for the season. I'm really disappointed because he is a very important player to us.
"He showed that in periods during the first half. He will be a big miss.
"I cannot really put into words how big a blow this is to us. We need Tim Cahill in games like this and we will also need him to score the goals.
"We have a decent goalscoring record this season and part of it is to do with Tim and Andy Johnson.
"But now we need to find those goals elsewhere in the final games of the season if we want to find ourselves in European competition next season."
