I might be biased but I believe it’s the ideal move for the lad, even though I’m sure he’ll be champing at the bit to get into the Everton first-team. Instead he’s at Leeds United and playing under Neil Warnock - and although they didn’t get off to the best start with that 2-0 defeat by Barnsley, it will be a helpful move none the less. He’ll be playing in front of big crowds, in a pressurised environment with a boisterous, well-known manager.
At first I wondered whether Warnock’s direct style of football would suit a midfielder like Ross, but I’m sure he won’t waste a player of his ability by missing him out and going from back to front all the time. My lad Jordan plays for Leeds U-18s and I’ve told him to look after Ross while he’s there, and I’ve also ensured Sam Byram – who I know well – looks out for him in the dressing room. Ross can be a shy lad but he’ll thrive in Yorkshire and I’ve told him I’ll be popping in to see him at Leeds’ Weatherby training ground and we’ll go for a coffee whenever he wants.
