I don’t know whether such a clause exists, but some reports are claiming that it can be activated if a Champions League club comes in for him. There’s no doubt in my mind that Fellaini’s talents deserve showcasing on a Champions League stage. He’s good enough to grace that level of competition and shine. But I’d love to see Marouane fulfil his Champions League ambitions here at Everton. If he, and the Blues, continue to play as well as they have been in the second half of the season, then who’s to say the ‘Champions League club’ that Marouane graces can’t be Everton? You don’t need to be a mathematical genius to work out that £22m doesn’t give much of a profit on a player who cost The Toffees £15m, and who has improved significantly in that time. At the time there were a few doubters who wondered whether he was worth £15m. He has since proved he is worth that sum and more – certainly more than £22m.
