Ian Snodin: Edgar Davids signing for Crystal Palace is a smack in the teeth for youngsters

IT'S ridiculous that Crystal Palace have signed former Holland international Edgar Davids.[LNB]Don't get me wrong, Davids (pictured, right, in his Spurs days) was an unbelievable player in his prime. He was a world class midfielder but he's 37 years old and hasn't had a club since he left Ajax in 2008.[LNB]Everyone is talking about how we need to give young English players in this country a fair crack of the whip.[LNB]Well, if I was an 18 or 19-year-old midfielder trying to break into the first team at Palace I wouldn't be happy about Davids joining.[LNB] It's a sad state of affairs when a club in the Championship signs a player who retired two years ago.[LNB]Nobody minds good quality players coming in from abroad but Davids' best days are long gone.[LNB]Joey Barton's moustache reminded me of myself![LNB]I WAS delighted that Newcastle beat Aston Villa at the weekend because it meant we finally saw the back of Joey Barton's moustache.[LNB]The Magpies midfielder has said he wouldn't shave it off until his side got their first victory of the season.[LNB]It looked terrible and I wasn't enjoying seeing it because it reminded me of how ridiculous I looked back in the late 80s!
