Howard: Toffees time right
15 Feb 2007 - 16:30:57
Everton's new signing Tim Howard has revealed he felt the time as right to leave Manchester United and sign a permanent contract with the Toffees.
The 27-year-old American keeper completed a £3million move to Goodison Park on Wednesday after spending the first seven months of the season on loan from United.
Howard put pen to paper on a five-year contract with David Moyes' side after admitting his chances of becoming the number one at Old Trafford looked extremely doubtful.
The former MetroStars keeper had lost his first team place at Old Trafford to Edwin Van der Sar and looked unlikely to dislodge either Ben Foster or Tomasz Kuszczak as number two to the veteran Dutchman next season.
"The time was right to do this," he admitted. "The Manchester United chapter is over and now I have a new one just beginning.
"I am happy that it is all done and I can look to the future.
"It is a fantastic club. Obviously Manchester United is a wonderful club too. It just happened that the time was right to do this and I am delighted.
"There were a lot of reasons that I wanted to come to Everton and get my future sorted out and one of those was the players who are at Goodison Park.
"They have welcomed me so well and I hope I can respond now with this new chapter in my life."
