Howard: I could have walked

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard feels he laid himself open to being sent-off for the push in the back of Wolves substitute Stefan Maierhofer's head at the weekend. The Austrian was sent-off for his part in the altercation, but Howard was relived he only received a yellow card in the final minutes of the 1-1 draw. Howard said: "I thought it would probably be yellow. But when you do something stupid like that then you leave it up to someone else to make the decision. Thankfully the referee (Stuart Attwell) had a level head and didn't send me off." A red card would have seen Howard banned during a spell of three tough away games. They face Benfica in a Europa League game on Thursday, before travelling to Bolton on Sunday, ahead of next Tuesday's Carling Cup game at Spurs.
