He shoots, he scores - but you were looking at Tic Tacs and Volkswagens

If you like Tic Tacs or Volkswagens, you would have been happy at around 10.40pm. on Wednesday. Then you would have seen a couple of ads for your favourite products as a welcome relief from the irritating football match that Everton and Liverpool had spent 118 minutes trying to win at Goodison Park.[LNB] I scored - but you missed it: Dan Gosling celebrates the goal ITV failed to broadcast[LNB] However, if like the rest of us, minty confectionery and German cars were not on your shopping list, you would have been dismayed when ITV's football coverage hit a new low.[LNB] EVERTON FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB]LIVERPOOL FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB][LNB]That dismay would have given way to confusion then blind fury as the cameras returned to the big city derby to a scene of Everton players celebrating the only goal of the game.[LNB]Yes, they missed the key moment, the winning moment,  teenager Dan Gosling's deflected shot beating Pepe Reina and knock the celebrations he would have enjoyed on his 19th birthday two days ago into a cocked hat.[LNB] Steve Rider, the unflappable host of the programme, rued the 'technical difficulties' that meant millions of people missed Gosling's strike. He apologised three times. He looked like he'd been caught looking through a hole to the girls showers by matron. Uncomfortable. Squirming.[LNB]Apologies were not enough. After serving up the kind of FA Cup coverage that was the worst since ITV Digital's attempts at covering empty stadia on Thursday nights (there's a theme developing here), cutting to an ad at such a key time smacks of incompetence of the highest order.[LNB]Even Liverpool players looked stunned at the blue and white pyramid of human delight on the turf. They were arguing with the ref. [LNB]Perhaps they had taken their eye off the ball and been tempted to get in their VW Polos and snap up some Tic Tacs. [LNB]Many of us will have been tempted never to watch their  football coverage again. The late, great ITV commentator Brian Moore must be turning in his grave...[LNB] Minted: How the Liverpool defenders looked to Dan Gosling as he scored his winning goal...[LNB] [LNB] ...while the famed German efficiency merely highlighted ITV's huge error [LNB] [LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB] [LNB] [LNB]
