Everton defender Joseph Yobo has emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for
Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been impressed with the form of Kolo Toure and Philippe Senderos this term, but with Sol Campbell seemingly in decline he is determined to add another top-class central defender to his squad.
Wenger was initially reported to have made Chelsea's unsettled France international William Gallas his number one target, but the Premiership champions have made it clear they will not sell to an English club.
He has now turned his attention to Yobo, who has enjoyed a quietly impressive four-year spell with the Toffees.
Everton boss David Moyes does not want to lose the 25-year-old, but the Nigerian only has one more season left on his contract and the Goodison board would prefer to cash in this summer rather than lose him for nothing in 2007.
