Gardner targets Euro spot

New signing Anthony Gardner is hoping his addition to the squad can help Everton achieve their goal of Champions League qualification this season.

The Spurs defender joined the Toffees on loan until the end of the season on transfer deadline day and has set his sights on a top-four finish for his new club.

However, the former England international will have to wait to make his debut as he remains troubled by a niggling injury.

The Merseysiders are currently in the fourth and final qualifying spot for the Champions League as they hold a one-point advantage over city rivals Liverpool.

"I'm just looking forward to working with the boys and getting out on the football field and showing what I can do," he told evertonTV.

"Hopefully I can contribute to what Everton are trying to do this year.

"It's unfortunate that I won't be able to be involved in the UEFA Cup because I'm cup tied from the earlier round with Spurs, but hopefully I can get some minutes on the pitch and show the fans what I can do.

"They're trying to push on to the Champions League so if I can help that in any way with my abilities, then I will be more than happy.

"I think I'm about ten days away from playing. There's just something that I need to clear up and then I will see if I can get myself into contention and hopefully, if I get a chance to play, I can show fans what I can do."
