Fulham v Everton live!

24 May 2009 14:25
90+3 Full-time! It's all over at Craven Cottage and Everton finish their great season in fine style. The home side came up short today but wil still gain a spot in Europe as Spurs slumped to defeat against Liverpool.[LNB]90+3 Dempsey almost grabs a consolation. The American slides in against Howard, the ball squirms clear and Hibbert blocks the follow-up.[LNB]90 The clock is running down without incident.[LNB]88 GOAL - OSMAN! Osman picks up the ball and unleashes a fantastic curling shot into the corner. Everton will win at Craven Cottage for the first time since 1966.[LNB]87 Pienaar was feeling his hamstring as he came off, that is potentially very bad news for Everton and David Moyes.[LNB]86 Pienaar is replaced by James Vaughan[LNB]86 Zamora is in at the far post and takes the ball down well but Howard comes out and makes a great save with his feet.[LNB]84 The game is not exactly the liveliest at the moment, Fulham don't look to be in a hurry to get an equaliser.[LNB]82 Castillo has a go from about 20 yards out but Schwarzer gets down well and gathers cleanly.[LNB]79 Saha is taken off to be replaced by Segundo Castillo.[LNB]79 The score at Anfield is now 2-0 to Liverpool so seventh place looks secured for Fulham whatever the result today.[LNB]78 Aaron Hughes is replaced by the debuting 19-year-old Chris Smalling.[LNB]76 Dan Gosling replaces Everton captain Phil Neville.[LNB]76 Murphy takes the free-kick but it is straight into the wall.[LNB]75 Kamara wins a free-kick on the edge of the box as the home crowd starts to get behind their team.[LNB]74 Danny Murphy whips in a cross that Howard does well to gather against an on-rushing Kamara.[LNB]73 On-loan Olivier Dacourt is about to make his last appearance for Fulham against his old club.[LNB]71 Yobo and Howard have a break down in communications and get in each others' way but no harm is done.[LNB]69 Fulham shake up their attack as Bobby Zamora is brought on for Erik Nevland.[LNB]69 Pantsil roames forward and fires a shot away from the edge of the area. It skids just past the post though and Everton hang on to their lead.[LNB]68 A cross from Tony Hibbert causes confusion as Brede Hangeland heads the ball away from his own goalkeeper.[LNB]65 Fulham surge forward but are thwarted by referee Mike Riley when he gives handball against Etuhu.[LNB]62 Cahill finds space in the area but his close-range shot was saved by Schwarzer and the referee and spotted a foul anyway.[LNB]60 Pantsil slides in the free-kick, it is met by Gera but his curving shot is well wide.[LNB]59 Fulham continue to press and are awarded a free-kick after handball by Baines.[LNB]57 A royal mix-up in the Everton defence as Yobo slips and Howard comes to pick up but almost handles outside the area. Although he eventually is tackled about 30 yards from his goal Fulham can't capitalise.[LNB]55 A brilliant ball from Osman is met by a strong header from Saha, but Schwarzer makes a fantastic save to put it out for a corner.[LNB]54 Cahill bursts into the box and tries to play in Pienaar but the ball is behind the South African and the danger is cleared.[LNB]53 Konchesky swings in a corner but Gera's header was not the best and the ball goes over the bar for a goal-kick.[LNB]52 Dempsey goes down on the edge of the area after contact with Neville but Mike Riley waves away the appeals to the disgust of the crowd.[LNB]50 Gera tries to break free on the edge of the area but loses the ball and Everton clear easily.[LNB]48 Everton slow the pace once again by playing it along the back line, taking the sting out of Fulham's early pressure.[LNB]46 Fulham are on the offensive as soon as the whistle blows but Kamara cannot control the ball on the edge of the area and it goes for a goal-kick.[LNB]45 Kick-off! Everton get the second-half underway.[LNB] The players are back out on the pitch and the second-half will commence in a moment.[LNB] Ben on the Wirral is back, this time singing the praises of Steven Pienaar, who has been fantastic in the first-half. He does spare a thought for the opponents though: "I do hope Fulham make Europe though as Roy Hodgson has done a great job and who can dislike Fulham?"[LNB] Can Fulham stage a fight back or will Everton go ino the FA Cup final on the back of a win? Let me know what you think by dropping me an e-mail at alex.williams@bskyb.com[LNB] John Pantsil was caught in possession in the lead up to the goal. The right-back has been tormented by Pienaar throughout the first-half.[LNB]45 Half-time! Everton go into the break a goal up after Leon Osman's strike on the stroke of half-time. Could the Toffees be in the process of ending their Craven Cottage hoodoo.[LNB]44 GOAL - OSMAN! Pienaar slides in a ball to Osman, who gets in behind the defence and takes the ball around Schwarzer before putting the ball into the net. Fulham were looking for the offside flag but Osman was level with Paul Konchesky.[LNB]41 Hibbert crosses at the other end but Cahill can't control his header after he got up well to meet the ball.[LNB]40 Once again Gera plays a fantastic ball into the box. It's picked up by Kamara, who tries to beat Howard from a tight angle but is unsuccessful.[LNB]38 Pienaar almost slides a great ball into Baines but it is slightly overhit and trickles out for a goal-kick.[LNB]37 Saha fires in a powerful shot after some great work by Pienaar, but Schwarzer has his near post covered and parries the ball away.[LNB]35 Gera again slips a great pass through to Nevland, but the Norwegian is offside and his touch was poor anyway.[LNB]33 Liverpool have scored against Spurs, a goal that will please the home crowd.[LNB]32 Pienaar plays in Saha but the French striker's shot is blocked by Aaron Hughes before Rodwell hits a shot into the fans behind the goal.[LNB]30 Everton play the ball around in midfield before spreading it left to Pienaar. The South African cuts inside and takes a shot that is straight at Schwarzer.[LNB]28 The pace of the game slows as Fulham bring the ball out of defence. The players could well be feeling the heat out there.[LNB]27 Cahill does well to keep possession under pressure on the edge of the box but his left-footed shot is comfortably wide.[LNB]25 Clint Dempsey uses his strength to break through but he can't finish as his shot is spooned very wide and very high.[LNB]23 Baines flots in a free-kick that Saha tries to get on the end of but he cannot connect under pressure from Dickson Etuhu.[LNB]21 Clint Dempsey tries to get a shot off but Lescott gets back well to block and avert the danger.[LNB]20 Danny Murphy has the chance to play in Diomansy Kamara but his pass is scuffed and collected by Howard.[LNB]19 Gera is given time on the ball and lashes a shot towards goal that flies about a yard over.[LNB]19 Rodwell again picks up a loose ball and this time tries to run into the box but his touch lets him down and Fulham clear.[LNB]16 Cahill tries a shot at the other end that is saved by Schwarzer low to his left.[LNB]15 Fulham are starting to come into the game more and Gera has a free header from six yards out. The angle was tough but he really should have done more than direct it into the arms of Howard.[LNB]13 PIenaar is felled by John Pantsil and stays on the ground for a few seconds. David Moyes' heart must have been in his mouth for a second as the last thing he needs is another injury ahead of the Cup final.[LNB]11 Joleon Lescott swings in a very high cross that goes out for a goal-kick.[LNB]9 Zoltan Gera slides in a briliant ball to Erik Nevland, who drags his shot wide of the mark from close range.[LNB]8 The visitors are having virtually all of the ball in the early stages and have looked dangerous in front of goal.[LNB]7 Jack Rodwell picks up a loose ball in space on the edge of the area and drills in a low shot but it is again gathered by Schwarzer.[LNB]6 Steven Pienaar floats in a cross that dips towards the goal but is collected by the sizeable Mark Schwarzer.[LNB]4 Everton have most of the early possession and Cahill looks dangerous in the box but cannot bring the ball under control.[LNB]2 Everton pass their way into Fulham territory and Saha almost gives them the lead with a header that cannons off the bar! The cross was sent in from Osman and met by the former Fulham striker.[LNB]0 Nevland tries to poke a through-ball from Murphy in the direction of the goal but does not manage to connect.[LNB]0 Kick-off! The game is underway at Craven Cottage.[LNB] We're just about ready for kick-off on the last day of the season.[LNB] Everton fan Ben from the Wirral is predicting a draw and is already looking forward to next weekend. He also doesn't seem to be shedding any tears over the departure of Jo.[LNB] The teams are now walking out onto the pitch on a hot and sunny day in West London as the home fans show their appreciation for a fantastic season.[LNB] One of our regulars, Stewart in Spain, messages in with this prediction: "Everton will beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage on the final day of the Premier Leage Season with Goals from Leon Osman & Tim Cahill." If that happens and Spurs manage to win at Anfield, Fulham will find themselves out of a European place.[LNB] Kick-off at Craven Cottage is just under 20 minutes away.[LNB] A pretty much full-strength side is fielded by both teams then. Zamora is left out of the unchanged Fulham starting line-up again while Jo is forced to start his final game for Everton on the bench.[LNB] Team news is in...Fulham: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Dempsey, Murphy, Etuhu, Gera, Nevland, Kamara. [LNB]Subs: Zuberbuhler, Zamora, Dacourt, Gray, Stoor, Baird, Smalling.[LNB]Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, Neville, Cahill, Rodwell, Pienaar, Osman, Saha. [LNB]Subs: Nash, Castillo, Jo, Vaughan, Jacobsen, Fellaini, Gosling.[LNB]Referee: Mike Riley (Yorkshire)[LNB] Team news will follow shortly. Is David Moyes going to rest anyone ahead of the Cup final? His injury-hit squad is depleted enough as it his.[LNB] SkyBet have Fulham as favourites for this match at even money. An Everton win is available at 11/4 while a draw is 12/5. Everton have a very poor record when playing away against Fulham and are also notoriously bad in the last game of the season, having won only one of their last 12 matches on the final day.[LNB] If anyone has any views or predictions on this match then send me an e-mail at alex.williams@bskyb.com and I'll post a selection.[LNB] Everton will be looking to secure a fifth-placed finish with a win today, although they might have one eye on next weekend's FA Cup final already.[LNB] A draw should also be enough for Fulham, unless Tottenham manage to thrash Liverpool in the most unlikely fashion.[LNB] Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Fulham v Everton on the final day of the 2008/2009 Premier League season. There is still plenty to play for, especially for the home side who can assure themselves a place in the new-look Europa League with a win today.[LNB]
