    Forward thrust delights Moyes

    19 Mar 2007 - 08:01:41

Everton manager David Moyes praised strike duo Andrew Johnson and James Vaughan as his side secured a crucial 1-0 win against Arsenal to improve their chances of clinching a UEFA Cup spot.

Johnson scored in stoppage time to seal the win that lifts Moyes' team back up to sixth, while teenager Vaughan produced a hard-working display after being preferred to James Beattie.

Everton had drawn 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium in October, and Moyes said: "We were playing a really good team and that's us taking four points off Arsenal this season so it's not a bad return.

"I thought the two forwards were always a threat. James Vaughan came in and was always a threat and Andy Johnson was always trying to get through.

"You look at the boys at the back as well, and Lee Carsley and the midfield, it was very hard to pick any faults today - they really went about the job right.

"I think for the way we played and the way we went about it - we set out positively to try and get a result - I think in the end we deserved it.

"I never doubted the players' character and belief. They are a brilliant group of lads to be with and I wanted to show that on the pitch."
