EXCLUSIVE: Fellaini's Belgium career in doubt as Advocaat gets tough

Marouane Fellaini's international future is in the balance after Belgium's hardline coach Dick Advocaat questioned his attitude and again attacked him over the 'toothgate' affair, when he pulled out of a World Cup qualifier to keep a dental appointment. [LNB]Sportsmail can reveal that Everton's £15million record signing from Standard Liege has been at odds with Advocaat since the start of the 62-year old's reign last month. [LNB]At the new regime's first training session, Fellaini turned out in white socks, rather than the black variety stipulated by Advocaat, and was immediately sent back to the dressing room to change. [LNB] Bad move: Fellaini (right) has rubbed Advocaat up the wrong way[LNB]Tension has been simmering since, and the pair were at loggerheads again when Fellaini played the full 90 minutes against Turkey, in Advocaat's first game in charge, then announced he was unavailable against Estonia the following Wednesday, due to a long-standing arrangement to have a troublesome wisdom tooth removed. [LNB]Though the Everton midfelder insisted the treatment was urgently needed, after a series of health problems caused by infections from the tooth, Advocaat was so incensed he ordered the Belgian FA to invoke the five-day rule, in an attempt to prevent him turning out against Wolves in the Barclays Premier League the following Saturday.[LNB] Everton challenged the move, claiming they had fulfilled their obligations by releasing Fellaini for the two World Cup qualifiers, and won the support of FIFA, who cleared him to play at Goodison Park. [LNB]  But Advocaat, a renowned disciplinarian, has made it clear he is in no mood to forgive or forget, even though Fellaini is generally regarded as his country's key player. [LNB]As he prepared for this weekend's game with Hungary, the former Rangers manager said: 'I still think it was very strange for him to make an appointment like that, and miss a World Cup game, because it was a very important week for Belgium. [LNB]'That is still clear in my mind, and I will remember it. Fellaini did not do a good thing for me. Sometimes, these things can happen in football, but, in my opinion, it was not appropriate conduct for a player with a national team. [LNB]'It seems to me that there are one or two players in the squad who place themselves above the rest, and I am working to put that right.'  [LNB] Everton to reward hot-shot Louis Saha with new deal to extend stay at Goodison ParkCHARLES SALE: 2018 World Cup might bypass LiverpoolBolton ready to dash Derby's hopes over £3m bid for Everton's VaughanWest Ham 1 Everton 2: Toffees silence the king of comebacksEVERTON FC
