Everton's David Moyes rules out permanent move for Jo
Moyes took a January transfer window gamble on the Manchester City striker, who had scored just three goals in 18 appearances since an £18 million move from CSKA Moscow last August.
With his forward line decimated by injuries, Moyes was forced to throw the Brazilian straight into the action, and his response was immediate.
The 22-year-old scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over Bolton on his Everton debut, and has since weighed in with a further three in six games - all at home.
But as for Moyes making the move permanent over the closed season, he concedes it is only a "maybe" before appreciating the price tag rules his club out of the running.
"It's not worth discussing as he cost a lot of money, and we don't have that sort of money, that's for sure," confirmed Moyes.
Moyes, though, has been thoroughly delighted - and perhaps a little surprised - with how Jo has performed since his arrival just over two months ago.
"He has come, done terrifically well, and he has got his goals," said Moyes.
"If somebody had said to me I would take a striker on loan and he would score five goals, I'd have said 'That will do me'.
"It's not easy to score in the Premier League, so you have to give him a lot of credit for all those goals.
"Away from home we still have to see him do more. That has been a bit of a concern, but his goals at home have been invaluable.
"He has a really good record, and let's hope he keeps it up. If he does then he will have proven a really good signing, which isn't easy to get in January."
Moyes, though, can understand why Jo failed to make the impact expected of him upon signing for City.
"It happens," assessed Moyes. "Look at players like (Carlos) Tevez and (Javier) Mascherano when they first came to the country. It was difficult for them.
"It is hard for foreign players. Maybe given time he will go on to show what he can do when he was at CSKA.
"But as to why he's changed since he's been with us, it's difficult to say.
"We needed a player because we were short, and Manchester City had quite a few, so we brought him in.
"But I didn't know at the time he would start every game. I didn't expect that.
"But with injuries, I put him in straight away and he got a couple of goals.
"I'm sure the fact he is playing regularly is making a difference, but I fully understand why Manchester City were able to let him go out."
