Everton target turning point

Everton host Tottenham on Wednesday night hoping the occasion can prove as pivotal as the corresponding fixture between the sides last season.

The Toffees struck twice in the last 12 minutes against Spurs at Goodison Park in an exhilarating comeback that earned a 2-2 draw in December 2009. That result provided a spark for the rest of the season as David Moyes' side, after a sluggish start to the campaign, lost just two of their remaining 23 games.

Looking back to Spurs' last visit, Moyes said: "We came back and got the goal late on, we looked as if we were dead and buried. But we have had that five or six times this year and have not been able to deliver - we have not been able to get on that run. I hope we can beat Tottenham - that would be a start."

Everton at least have home advantage after three successive away games.

The Merseysiders should have played at Goodison on Boxing Day but their clash with Birmingham was postponed due to the freezing weather.

Moyes said: "You normally don't have it as bad as that. The Birmingham game being called off has made it look worse than it was.

"But it seems a long time. We have been at Man City, West Ham and Stoke. Then next we've got Scunthorpe and Liverpool away.

"I'm glad we've got a game at Goodison but we are in a really difficult period of away games."
