Everton FC keeper Tim Howard on stripping for action in the club?s saucy charity calendar
Published : 14 Nov 2012 06:00:00
Blues fans are used to seeing keeper Tim Howard in his green shirt between the posts at Goodison.
But, having stripped off for the club’s much talked about charity calendar, the American goalie admits he’s equally happy getting his kit off for the girls. The saucily titled 12 Shades of Blue calendar sees Tim staring moodily at the camera while wearing just a towel to cover his modesty. He also shows off a very impressive physique too, although he says baring those tattoo-covered pecs was no hardship, especially in a good cause.
“They asked individual players to get involved and obviously we had the opportunity to say yes or no, but most of the players are pretty giving of their time and willing to go a bit beyond their comfort zone, so we said yes,” says 33-year-old Tim.
“There was a lot of give and take about what poses we were going to do, and how much we kept on or off ... although mostly it was off!
“But really I don’t think it was anything new for us, we spend our lives in the dressing room so it’s kind of normal for us to be walking around like that. I don’t think we were too uncomfortable with it.” In fact, he jokes, one or too were keener than others to take part.
“I think there’s a few in the calendar who are pretty vain,” he laughs,
“so probably they were the ones looking at the pictures and wishing they’d done something in particular – but not me, honestly.
“We have a brilliant set up at Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm, with gym equipment so we have a good number of guys who stay regularly after training’s over. We go to the gym and do our own workouts, so we look after ourselves.” In addition to their fitness regime, Tim says the calendar highlights another aspect of the Blues off-pitch commitment: to the city as a whole.
