27 February 2009 10:10
Everton will be hoping to consolidate their top-six standing on Saturday when they host West Brom.[LNB] The Toffees enter the weekend encounter having suffered just one defeat in their last 10 Premier League fixtures.[LNB]The have, however, won only one of their last five and will be keen to re-establish some momentum heading into the end of season run-in.[LNB]A glance at the history books suggests the lunchtime clash at Goodison Park is likely to be a tight affair, with five of the seven previous top-flight meetings between the two teams being settled by the odd goal.[LNB]All four of Everton's victories in the fixture have been by a single goal, while the Baggies can boast a 4-0 success from 2005.[LNB]Tony Mowbray's men will be hoping for a similar outcome this time around, but enter the game on the back of a run which has brought three defeats from four outings.[LNB]They continue to remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, three points from safety, and have taken only one point from their last 10 games on the road.[LNB]They also have the worst defensive record in the division, with 49 goals conceded in 26 matches this term.[LNB]Woe for ToffeesThe Everton treatment room continues to operate a revolving door policy, with David Moyes seeing his squad further depleted last weekend.[LNB]Spanish playmaker Mikel Arteta damaged his knee during the goalless draw at Newcastle on Sunday and is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday.[LNB]Victor Anichebe, who found himself on the receiving end of a dangerous challenge from Kevin Nolan at St James' Park, is also sidelined with a shin injury.[LNB]Nuno Valente (knee), Steven Pienaar (hamstring) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (calf) will also be unavailable to Moyes.[LNB]Leon Osman and James Vaughan are two more notable absentees, but Louis Saha is pushing for a first-team recall.[LNB]Tim Cahill and Tony Hibbert will also be welcomed back from suspension.[LNB]Duo in contentionFor the Baggies, Mowbray will be hoping to bring Jonas Olsson and Ryan Donk back into his squad.[LNB]Olsson has been out of action with a knee problem of late while Donk has been struggling with a groin strain.[LNB]However, both men could come back into contention this weekend.[LNB]On a less positive note, Jonathan Greening, Ishmael Miller and Neil Clement all remain long-term absentees with knee problems.[LNB]Possible starting XIsEverton: Howard, Hibbert, Lescott, Jagielka, Baines, Neville, Rodwell, Cahill, Gosling, Jo, Saha.[LNB]West Brom: Carson, Robinson, Meite, Zuiverloon, Barnett, Morrison, Koren, Valero, Brunt, Fortune, Simpson.[LNB]
