Match Preview

Everton will go face-to-face with Sunderland on Wednesday evening in the Premier League as their injury nightmares of recent times looks to be subsiding.

The Toffees have had to do without the services of many first team stars during the last couple of months but David Moyes will have been delighted to welcome back Spanish playmaker Mikel Arteta during Saturday's FA Cup 2-1 reversal against Birmingham City.

Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling (both hamstring) could be fit again after their lay-offs to further ease Moyes' headache.

However, Tony Hibbert (groin), Joseph Yobo (hamstring), Victor Anichebe and Phil Jagielka (knee) remain out.

Everton are on a fine seven-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and this streak has coincided with a rise up the table into tenth place to aid their European aspirations.

They produced a fine 2-0 win over big-spending Manchester City during their last league game with Steven Pienaar and Louis Saha out shooting Roberto Mancini's expensively assembled side.

Sunderland aren't having such good luck and they simply cannot buy a win at the moment.

Steve Bruce is starting to cut a beleaguered figure in the Black Cats' dugout.

Saturday's FA Cup loss at Portsmouth has only added to the north east club's woes and you would have to go back to November 21 for their last success.

It was Arsenal who suffered a 1-0 defeat on this date but the Stadium of Light outfit have not won in their last seven league games and only a 3-0 FA Cup win against Conference side Barrow at the turn of the year has brought any recent joy.

Defensive duo Anton Ferdinand (ankle) and John Mensah (calf) look set to win their respective injury battles, but talismanic midfielder Lee Cattermole (hamstring) is rated as a huge doubt for the clash.
