Everton v Sigma Olomouc preview

Everton are licking their wounds as their European adventure begins against Sigma Olomouc in the Europa League on Thursday. The Toffees are reeling after suffering their heaviest home defeat since 1958 in last Sunday's 6-1 demolition by Arsenal. While Everton will be looking to bounce back at Goodison on Thursday, Sigma are a side in form and having tasted recent success on British soil. Sigma battered SPL side Aberdeen 8-1 on aggregate over two legs, including securing a handsome 5-1 victory at Pittodrie. Everton will be without star defender Joleon Lescott after manager David Moyes confirmed he had been dropped due to a poor attitude. Request rejected The club recently rejected Lescott's transfer request after turning down two bids from rivals Manchester City for the England international. That leaves Joseph Yobo as the club's only fit recognised central defender, although Phil Neville and Jack Rodwell can also fill in. Louis Saha could be given the nod up front after scoring off the bench in Saturday's dismal defeat. On-loan striker Jo proved ineffective for much of the encounter and may be dropped or could be supported by the ex-Manchester United striker. Same midfield Steven Pienaar, Marouane Fellaini, Tim Cahill and Leon Osman should keep their places in midfield. Mikel Arteta (knee) and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Achilles) remain unavailable while Victor Anichebe has suffered a fresh setback in his return to full fitness. Rising Brazilian midfielder Daniel Rossi is key for Sigma and how he copes for Fellaini's presence could be crucial. Everton will need to be on guard across the field as Sigma had seven different goal scorers against Aberdeen with only Michael Hubnik on target twice.
