Everton are ready to reward Marouane Fellaini's outstanding progress with a new long-term deal.

The Belgium player cost Everton a club record £15million when he arrived from Standard Liege in August 2008.

His contract does not expire until June 2013 but Everton, who this week handed rising star Ross Barkley a two-and-a-half-year deal, want to protect their asset.

Fellaini returned from a three-match ban with an impressive performance against Chelsea in last Saturday's 1-1 draw and will remain in central midfield when Everton host Wigan on Saturday.
