The Frenchman, who has joined David Moyes' club on a three-year contract, said that despite the recent takeover by Sulaiman al-Fahim, Portsmouth's financial situation and lack of new signings did little to reassure him of the club's future stability. Distin's departure from Fratton Park follows an exodus which has seen big names such as Peter Crouch rejoin Harry Redknapp at Tottenham, Sean Davis move to Bolton and Glen Johnson sign with Liverpool. In the past week Portsmouth have announced the acquisition of new players including Jamie O'Hara and Kevin Boateng, but Distin fears the effects of the club's instability could prove disastrous on their season. “I do fear for the club,” Distin told the Mirror. “I’m not going to lie. I fear for the club because financially it is not safe. “Everybody is worried - staff, fans, players. That’s normal and it would be strange if they weren’t. It was difficult situation to start a season like that. “I know sometimes people just want the players to think about football and not to get upset or affected by what happens to the club, but that’s impossible. We are like everybody else, we have feelings. “They also don’t have enough players and that is one of the reasons that I left. I felt I couldn’t stay, especially at my age. I want to enjoy my football. I don’t have 10 years left so I want to enjoy it, have a good time and compete.” Looking ahead to his future with Everton, Distin is confident he will have an important role to play in ensuring Moyes' side finish in the top five again. Hoping to make his debut for the Merseyside club against Wigan tomorrow [Sunday], Distin added: "I feel really comfortable and that is a good sign. I definitely think we can get fifth place again. "When you have players who have played together for a long time, that’s a plus. We know it will be tough, but Everton have proved they can do it.”
