Everton manager David Moyes blames Carling Cup organisation for fixtures pileup

Suggesting that the competition needs a complete review, Moyes' rant has been triggered by his side's timetable over the next six days during which they will travel to Benfica in the Europa Cup, visit Bolton in the Premier League and travel to White Hart Lane for a Carling Cup fourth round clash with Tottenham. Believing the fixture calendar leaves him with no option but to risk Everton's chances of progressing in the domestic competition, Moyes said he will have to play a reserve side next Tuesday to prevent his best players from burning out. "I find the lack of respect we have been shown by the Carling Cup organisers really disappointing," he said. "My philosophy has always been to try to put our best teams in whatever competition we enter, but we've been asked to play Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night after playing the previous Thursday and Sunday. "I am aware that other clubs will have a similar scenario, but they haven't got games on Thursday and again on Sunday. "It could have been quite easily moved but for the decision to screen Arsenal against Liverpool on the Wednesday - that's the support you get for trying to put out your strongest team in as many competitions as possible. "If I was Carling I'd question the people running it." According to a report in the Mirror, Everton tried in vain to get the game swapped with the Arsenal Liverpool tie, but competition organisers would not budge on their decision leaving Moyes to argue that the competition has been devalued.
