Everton FC skipper Phil Neville hopes Blues can put West Brom pain to bed against Chelsea
Phil Neville 300[LNB]PHIL NEVILLE might not have been on the pitch during the Blues home humiliation last weekend but he felt the pain as keenly as the swelling in his battered knee.[LNB]The Everton skipper, never a good spectator at the best of times, was more disgusted than most at the final whistle and it unpicked a psychological wound he admits has only recently healed.[LNB]Neville was under general anaesthetic on an operating table last November when the Blues suffered their nadir of last season, a 3-2 away defeat by ultimately doomed Hull City - just hours after a new stadium in Kirkby had been rejected by a Government inquiry.[LNB]'I'll never forget that,' says the former England international. 'I was sitting on an operating table having just woke up when we were 3-0 down at half-time, and I felt it couldn't get any worse.[LNB] 'Then look at the season we went on to have.'[LNB]Not surprisingly, Neville is pinning his hopes on a now familiar revival, starting at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, but he is still seething with frustration at the Toffees' slow start.[LNB]The 33-year-old feels the sluggish beginning to this season is all the more infuriating after a summer of optimism, stoked enthusiastically by the captain.[LNB]'I think we had to deal with the expectancy,' says Neville.[LNB]'We put a lot of pressure on ourselves and there were a lot of noises coming out of the camp that we were confident, me being the biggest one.[LNB]'I was so sure that we were set up for a great start to the season, and that's not happened. We need to get back to basics.'[LNB]Neville, speaking as he joined staff at the Liverpool Hargreaves Centre to find out about the charity's latest work with children and families across Merseyside, is desperate for the season to finally lift-off.
