Everton FC can still make top four if we learn to kill games off Bryan Oviedo

Bryan Ovideo insists Everton cannot afford to keep conceding late goals if they are to realise their Champions League dream.

The Blues were rocked by Sebastien Bassong’s 90th minute equaliser for Norwich at Goodison on Saturday, after leading for most of the game. Failure to win meant losing further ground on West Brom, who moved up to third place in the Premier League, and the Costa Rican international knows David Moyes will be asking his squad to scrutinise their defensive failings before Wednesday’s game with Arsenal. “The goal was very disappointing. It made it difficult for us. We need to look at it and see what happened because we can’t afford to keep conceding late goals.

“We’ve conceded too many in the last five minutes. Yeah, we’ve got injuries but that’s not an excuse; we just need to work harder because we want Champions League.

“We have the team for Champions League football. We have good players but we need to start concentrating better and defend much better from free-kicks and corners.”

Everton missed a host of chances to  finish off the game, with Nikica Jelavic guilty of wastefulness but Oviedo insists the burden should not lay just with the striker.

“The responsibility shouldn’t be just with Jelavic,” he said.

“The whole team should be scoring goals.
