Everton demand talks after Kirkby axe and Liverpool rule out ground-share

Everton will seek urgent talks with local authority chiefs afterLiverpool made it clear they had no intention of pursuing aground-sharing scheme.[LNB] After having plans for a new stadium at Kirkby blocked by theGovernment, Everton's chief executive Robert Elstone indicated theywould consider joining forces with their neighbours to build a groundthat would be used by both clubs.[LNB] Grounds for concern: Government blocked Everton's plans for proposed 50,000 capacity stadium at Kirkby[LNB] But Everton will consult the city council about their next step after Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow informed Elstone, at a World Cup bid meeting in London yesterday, that they had no interest in a joint scheme.[LNB] Though Liverpool's Stanley Park project has stalled, co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have already ploughed £18million into infrastructure and feasibility studies. [LNB]They have been granted planning permission and are determined to press ahead with a stadium for Liverpool's sole use, once new investment is found.[LNB] Everton must start afresh in their search for a new home and will ask the city council to reconsider their opposition to a retail outlet being taken on as partners to offset the cost. The council have identified potential sites in the past but insisted Everton should proceed unaided.
