Everton boss David Moyes is trying to salvage moves for Valencia midfielder Ever Banega and Atletico Madrid defender John Heitinga after both hit a snag. Moyes looked set to add £6million-rated Dutch centre-half Heitinga to last week's signing of Sylvain Distin and Real Madrid discard Rafael van der Vaart was also on the radar. Van der Vaart is without even a squad number after the arrival of the galaticos Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at the Bernebeu and his lawyer, Robert Geerlings, says he favours a move to the Premier League rather than a return to the Bundesliga, where he was succesful with SV Hamburg. Goodison bound? Everton have Atletico Madrid defenderJohnny Heitinga in  their sights as they look to add to the recent signing of Sylvain Distin Ideally, Van der Vaart would want to move to another Champions League side and is hoping that Arsenal make a late move for him but, with the clock ticking down on the transfer window, Everton may step in.
