James Vaughan earned a glowing tribute from David Moyes yesterday for defying another career-threatening knee injury and returning early to bolster Everton's threadbare attacking options for the FA Cup Final against Chelsea. The England under-21 striker was initially written off for the season after damaging knee ligaments. But confounded all expectations by going on as an extra-time substitute in the semi-final against Manchester United and scoring in Everton's penalty shootout win. Moyes said: 'I'm still not sure he is ready to start games, or evenplay for lengthy spells as a substitute, because he is not fully fit. It's a big ask, but he made a great contribution at Wembley, and that'swhy I want to involve him.'
