Everton are a selling club, admits captain Phil Neville

SharePhil Neville has admitted Everton may be forced to sell one of their 'superstars' if they do not want to be cut adrift by England's top clubs.[LNB] Manager David Moyes has maintained that he does not want to break his squad up but that has not deterred several of Everton's rivals casting covetous glances at his key players.[LNB] Star name: Manchester United have been linked with Jack Rodwell[LNB] Manchester City are keen on both England Under-21 midfielder Jack Rodwell and player of the year Leighton Baines, while Arsenal have long since expressed an interest in defender Phil Jagielka.[LNB] It would take offers in excess of ?20million for Everton to consider doing business but Neville cites Wayne Rooney's move to Manchester United in 2004 to show it need not be the end of the world.[LNB] Everton will have to generate transfer funds for Moyes by offloading and Neville said: 'It is the way of the world at a club like Everton.[LNB] Big earner: Everton sold Wayne Rooney to Manchester United for ?20m[LNB] 'Sometimes to move forward, you might have to sell one of your better players, like we did with Rooney.[LNB] 'But the year after we sold Rooney, we qualified for the Champions League, so it isn't necessarily a bad thing sometimes.[LNB] 'Sometimes you just have to take a hit on one of your superstars, and take one step back so you can take two forwards.'
