Everton 1 Wolves 1: Bilya thriller brings Wanderers to their knees

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's 88th-minute equaliser spared Everton from defeat and continued Wolves' education into the harsh realities of life in the Premier League. Everton manager David Moyes was at a loss to explain how a team that has scored four goals in a game three times this season could have produced such a poor attacking performance. Everton equalised when Tim Cahill's pass found substitute forward Jo and his low cross was met at the far post by Russian winger Bilayletdinov, whose finish was clinical. That cancelled out Kevin Doyle's third goal of the season, claimed when a Wayne Hennessey goalkick was misjudged by Joseph Yobo in the 76th minute, leaving Republic of Ireland striker Doyle in acres of space to roll the ball past Tim Howard. Got him licked: Wolverhampton Wanderers' David Edwards (left) has an effort on goal blocked by Everton's Jack Rodwell (right) There was a frantic period of injury-time, notable for Howard saving well from Doyle, Leighton Baines going close with a free-kick and Wolves substitute Stefan Maierhofer being sent off for a second yellow card - a late challenge on Howard following an earlier foul on Cahill. That decision angered Wolves manager Mick McCarthy. He said: 'I thought it was harsh, bordering on downright disgraceful. The first one was a booking for the manner he went into the tackle, although there was a reaction because we're playing at Everton - the crowd is partisan and Moyes is there playing wide left. 'The second one, he did what I would expect any centre-forward in the world to do, run across his line. If anything, Tim Howard was fortunate not to go. If you lift your hands and push someone above the neck, it's a sending-off.' Moyes said: 'A few weeks ago, we had a spell when we were scoring a lot of goals but I don't think we were playing any better then.'
