Everton 1 Liverpool 0: Reds are goosed by the golden Gosling

There is more than the vast expanse of Stanley Park that divides these two clubs but Dan Gosling showed there is no gap in desire as he scored a dramatic 118th-minute winner for Everton[LNB]against the old enemy.[LNB]Put these two teams on the same pitch at the moment and there is little that divides them - apart from wealth.[LNB]So little to illustrate why one side is challenging for the Premier League title and one, once again, is punching some way above its own weight.[LNB] Gosling struck late to knock Liverpool out of the FA Cup[LNB] [LNB] Dan Gosling's effort flies into the net to send Goodison Park wild with delight[LNB]In the three utterly absorbing games these two sides have contested in the last couple of weeks, Everton have been terrific and after two draws they simply refused to concede a defeat in the third and 19-year-old substitute Gosling's quick-footed skill in the Liverpool[LNB]area which ended with a shot bent round the despairing Pepe Reina earned victory.[LNB]An injury to Steven Gerrard after only 16 minutes unsettled Liverpool but this FA Cupfourth-round replay always looked as if it would go all the way.[LNB]It would be churlish to say Rafa Benitez could have done with Robbie Keane on hisbench, given how well he had done without the Irishman before selling him back to Tottenham on Monday.[LNB] Blanked out! Gosling's strike stuns Rafa's Reds - and ITV miss it[LNB]He shoots, he scores - but you were looking at Tic Tacs and Volkswagens at the time - sorry[LNB]Everton 1 Liverpool 0: All the action as it happened[LNB]EVERTON FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB]LIVERPOOL FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB][LNB]But a Liverpool side that has beaten Chelsea twice this season and also sent Manchester United away from Anfield nursing a crushing defeat could find no way ofbreaking the deadlock in normal time here at Goodison Park.[LNB]History was obviously against them. Not since 1988 had Liverpool won an FA Cup-tiehere and the class of 2009 found it just as tough as their predecessors in the 211thMerseyside derby.[LNB] Gosling is congratulated by Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka after his late winner[LNB]For all the money Benitez has invested in his side, Liverpool did little to trouble thisterrific Everton defence.[LNB]Although Liverpool's manager would no doubt counter that Reina was no busier than Tim Howard.[LNB]For an hour neither keeper had a save to make, proving how well disciplined and, indeed, how determined both sides were to earn a fifth-round meeting with Aston Villa.[LNB]The absence of Javier Mascherano from Liverpool's starting line-up certainly suggested Benitez was in a more adventurous mood and the visitors did enjoy much of the early possession, Xabi Alonso threatening with a viciously-struck effort that whistled wide of Howard's right hand post.[LNB]Lifted by Sunday's victory over of Chelsea, and the memory of their victory here in the Premier League earlier this season, Liverpool started with confidence.[LNB]But any sense of superiority was shortlived with the sudden and unexpected withdrawal of Gerrard with what looked like a hamstring injury.[LNB]Understandably, Everton's supporters celebrated as if their side had just gone ahead.[LNB] Gerrard had scored in both encounters last month. Now he was out after 16 minutes.[LNB]A moment of controversy then followed, Tim Cahill catching Jamie Carragher with his elbow in an aerial challenge. Moyes, having seen five of his players sent off in the fourprevious meetings here with Liverpool feared the worst. But the Australian escaped with a yellow card.[LNB] Liverpool fans will be anxiously waiting for news over the extenct of Steven Gerrard's injury [LNB]Encouraged by Gerrard's setback - and an injury that will also concern Fabio Capello before next week's England friendly in Spain - Everton began to play with more urgency.[LNB]A cross from Tony Hibbert forced Reina to make a desperate punch, while a teasing free-kick from Mikel Arteta also threatened.[LNB]As Leon Osman with a volley. Just as in those previous two games, it was enthralling stuff. Not quite total football but total commitment with some courageous, sometimes less than cautious, defending thrown in for good measure.[LNB]Cahill went agonisingly close to scoring, the really frustrating bit for Everton being his failure to actually make contact with a ball min Liverpool's six-yard box.[LNB]A foul by Lucas on Leighton Baines presented another opportunity, but again it could not be taken.[LNB]Without Gerrard, Liverpool were just lacking that drive from midfield.[LNB]They still had Torres, of course. But for the finest striker in the world the supply line had been damaged.[LNB] David Moyes and Everton are one step away from reaching the quarter-finals[LNB]It was never better demonstrated than when Dirk Kuyt suddenly found himself in a position that Gerrard considers his domain, with the ball at his feet in the final third of the field.[LNB]The Dutchman had Torres and Albert Riera to his left, but opted to drive a shot into the feet of Phil Jagielka which found Torres in an offside position.[LNB]For Benitez it was hugely frustrating. Everton were again defending superbly, Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott proving so solid to the heart of their back four.[LNB]They might have lost at Manchester United last weekend but here was evidence ofhow they survived nine games without defeat prior to that trip.[LNB]Every Liverpool move was meeting a wall of blue looking increasingly impenetrable and Everton almost stole it in the 71st minute when Osman drove Cahill's neat pass onto Reina's lefthand post.[LNB]Liverpool's worries increased when Lucas tripped Lescott five minutes later to earn a second yellow card - the first player to be dismissed in an FA Cup Merseyside derby.[LNB]As Everton made their numerical advantage tell, Reina saved bravely at the feet of Dan Gosling in the seventh minute of extra time.[LNB]Then, the spectacular conclusion. Substitute Andy van der Meyde's right-wing cross was brought down by Gosling who turned, neatly beat one challenge before curling in a shot, which took a slight deflection, and went in off the inside of Reina's left hand post.[LNB] Blanked out! Gosling's strike stuns Rafa's Reds - and ITV miss it[LNB]He shoots, he scores - but you were looking at Tic Tacs and Volkswagens at the time - sorry[LNB]Everton 1 Liverpool 0: All the action as it happened[LNB]EVERTON FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB]LIVERPOOL FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE NET[LNB][LNB] [LNB]
