Phil Jagielka has expressed his delight after coming on as a substitute in England's 2-1 victory over Ukraine.[LNB] The Everton defender replaced Rio Ferdinand for the final few minutes of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier at Wembley.[LNB]It was his first appearance in a competitive international and he admits it was a relief to get the nod from the bench following his performance against Spain.[LNB]"I thought Michael Carrick was being brought on to shore up the midfield but when Rio went down, I knew another defender would be coming on," Jagielka told the Liverpool Echo.[LNB]"It might have only been for a few minutes but it's always nice to get an extra cap, especially in a game that meant as much as this one did.[LNB]"He (Capello) has got faith in everybody that he picks, you know that. If he picks you for a game or selects you for a squad, it's not because he wants to do you a favour.[LNB]"He just wants to win football matches and will pick the players he feels will do that."[LNB]MassiveJagielka made a costly mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Spain and feared that he would be left out of the England squad as a result.[LNB]He said: "It was massive to be called up for this one.[LNB]"I would have been gutted if I'd missed out, particularly after what had happened against Spain.[LNB]"If for some reason I'd have ended up being out of the squad for a long time, I might have started to wonder what was going to happen and been a bit nervous in the future about being selected."[LNB]
