End in sight for unlucky Saha
18 Feb 2009 - 13:39:06
Everton striker Louis Saha could feature in David Moyes' squad for this weekend's Premier League encounter with Newcastle United after returning to training.
The 30-year-old has been sidelined for almost three months with the hamstring problem he sustained at Tottenham in November.
"Louis wanted to get back in training," head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website.
"I thought he came back a couple of days too soon, but we don't mind that."
Midfield trio Leon Osman, Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar could also feature against Newcastle after making good progress in their battles to recover from injuries.
Rathbone added: "Ossie stretched for the ball in training and had a little tear of the stomach muscle. We are pushing him like crazy for the weekend.
"Steven did his hamstring in the game against Liverpool, which was 13 days ago. He's making okay progress. We never rule players out here, but we will see how it goes for the weekend.
"Marouane got injured against Arsenal and didn't report it until after the Man United game. He played 50 minutes against Liverpool and did a great job for the team there.
"There's a little tiny crack (in a bone in his back) and it will heal itself, it just takes a bit of time."
