Everton have confirmed that USA international Landon Donovan has been granted a work permit for his loan move to Goodison Park.

Toffees boss David Moyes revealed last week that a temporary deal to bring the 27-year-old to Merseyside from LA Galaxy had been agreed.

Donovan will now be available to play for Moyes' side from January 2 onwards.

Meanwhile, Yakubu is desperate to start finding the net on a regular basis once again. Since returning from an Achilles injury which kept him out of action for almost a year, the Nigeria international has struggled for goals with his only strike in the Premier League so far this season coming in the 3-3 draw with Chelsea earlier this month.

He said: "I'd like to help the team a little bit before I go (to the Africa Cup of Nations) like I did last time with those cup goals. At the moment we're struggling and it's very up and down, but when we get some of the injured players back and start winning again we'll be OK.

"We as players aren't happy with the position we're in at all. We need to start winning and picking up more points.

"For me I think I'm 100 per cent fit and I just need to wait for my time and get my chance to play.

"I'm going to the African Cup and hopefully I can get in more training, play more games and that will make me fitter and fitter when I come back and I can be starting more games. I always believe I can score goals as a striker."
