French defender Sylvain Distin has signed a new one-year contract with Premier League club Everton, the Merseyside club announced on Friday.

Distin's current deal expired at the end of this season but the 34-year-old was keen to remain at Goodison Park and, after another impressive campaign for the Toffees, a new agreement has been reached to keep him until the end of next term.

"Sylvain Distin has signed a new one-year contract with Everton which will keep him at Goodison Park for the 2012/13 season," a statement on the club's website announced.

Former Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain star Distin has made 115 appearances for Everton since joining from Portsmouth almost three years ago and was recently voted Players' Player of the Season.

"I love my job and I know how lucky I am to do this kind of job," Distin said. "I want to carry on as long as I can. No matter what happens, you can be sure I'll be there the next day.

"It's a good squad here with a great atmosphere. I feel so comfortable with the lads, so it's a pleasure. Guys like (Leighton) Baines, (Marouane) Fellaini, (John) Heitinga, (Phil) Jagielka, (Tim) Howard -- there's a lot of quality in this squad."
